hazeyjane is the creation of Kettering-based composer, guitarist and singer Chris Brown, the vehicle for the live musical expression of his own original songs and arrangements of celebrated pieces of poetry. Acoustic and ambient, hazeyjane present intense music
of emotional intimacy and atmosphere. Chris’s melodies are founded on exquisite guitar figures and motifs – think Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and the like – using unusual tunings and chordal combinations as soundscapes for richly poetic lyrics.
Chris is accompanied by Kevin T Ward and his signature singing fretless bass to add rhythmic expression, texture, and colour to the songs.
Debut album, ONE, recorded by Chris and producer Ash Tu-kay, was released in 2016.
In 2017, renowned world percussionist David ‘Hopi’ Hopkins joined the band and his myriad nuanced, percussive textures, contribute greatly to the overall mood of the hazeyjane sound.
A live EP, Kanre, was released in May 2017 to coincide with the trio’s appearance on the main stage at Cromer’s Folk On The Pier series of concerts.
In July 2018, the band played in an expanded five-piece format at The Stables in Milton Keynes, with new recruits, Stephen Jones and Corinne Lucy, to showcase songs from the forthcoming second album.
In Autumn 2018, hazeyjane played a series of prestigious gigs, including Zeffirelli’s Jazz Bar in Ambleside and The Eyemouth Hippodrome in Scotland.
